The Challenge Collection

Adversity is a solitary friend and we immediately understood how sometimes he is also the only force driving others to pursue themselves through the expression of words, art and creativity.

To enable this goal, we conducted three challenges—

1) The Weavers’ Challenge
2) The Stringing Words Challenge
3) The Form Runners and Inventors’ Challenge

The sole purpose for these challenges coming into existence was the beautiful discovery of finding amazing creatives on Instagram just waiting to be seen, appreciated and recognized.

This intention to help creatives discern, explore and claim their creative gifts with pride along with publishing them in anthologies coincided, aligned and came together at the perfect time.

A Writer Of The Heart was first published in Ikigai: the reason for being by Paper Paints and Poetry at FanatiXx in 2019. It was edited and compiled by Janani and Anupama.

Introduction

The Weavers’ Challenge was an interesting tool that sifted through the pandemic times to find hope under the swirling currents of enveloping fear in the dark so before you get lost within the pages of Capsized In The Pandemic Lockdown, we would love to extol our co-authors’ creativity and exceptional talents in interpreting our prompts and themes with such astounding skill and imagery. Their different perspectives regarding the pandemic state of affairs was absolutely impressive and you will find yourself wanting to learn more about them.

This book is divided into three sections based on three prompts that we, Our Earthians Community Group, introduced:
1) Steps to free a meadow of daffodils
2) How does a warrior’s journey begin? And

3) How to scale/escape the walls of my prison?

The three themes that we applied to this challenge were:

a) Lockdown

b) Quarantine and

c) Covid-19

Additionally, we introduced another prompt in a mini challenge for those who had missed the deadline and still wished to participate:

4) A personal storm of upheaval, along with its theme

d) Unbalanced

However, all submissions for this mini challenge were merged under the three main sections of the book. “How shall we free the daffodils? How are warriors born? How shall we escape our prisons?” we asked the quarantined heartbeat of Our Earthians community and they have answered us with words, art and stunning imagery. Through their work, we learn that though every individual, group or nation have wanted to change the fundamental course of long-held social and psychological attitudes, it seems that they have mostly been left feeling burdened with disillusionment.

The Meadow of Daffodils, A Warrior’s Journey and The Walls of Imprisonment address these matters because they can represent many things, namely—a collective ideology, a belief system, discriminatory labelling, a physical circumstance or even a mindset of an emotional trauma.
